You are right Tobi, when doing an in-place upgrade we should always go up one version at a time. We are just suggesting that you don’t stop at the next version up but continue to upgrade, therefore skipping a version 🙂

Of course, in-place upgrades are only one option open to people that have this issue. You could rebuild or replace the server directly using Debian 11 either storing things in /home or restoring from backups as needed.

skipping releases is NOT supported, you have update to Debian 10 and then can go to Debian 11.
